Just about there, Karaoke and walk off Christmas lunch.

22/12/2020

Dear members and friends of St. Peter's, Hobart.

I hope it is not just the children who are getting excited.  We have very special services planned for the great feast of Christmas that is about to dawn on us once again. Yes, we are just about there! The children's nativity and carols (Thursday 6.30pm) will be very heartwarming and meaningful, and God has just gifted me something quite profound for the Christmas Day (9.30am) sermon. The Christmas day service will also include favourite carols along with the Word made flesh truly bodily present once again as he again comes to us in and through the physical and material, namely the bread and wine which really and truly is his life-giving holy body and blood.

Walk off Christmas lunch: Pastor Mike, Harrison and possibly Leanne invite anyone interested to join them to do the Organ Pipe walk (approx 7.4km or 3 hours return) this Sunday 27th of December. Meet at The Springs car park to set off at 1.00pm. Time to grab a snack after Church if you wish. We will be there rain, hail or shine; but at this stage, the forecast for Hobart is 26 degrees.

New Years Eve service and Karaoke: There has been a special push for a New Years Eve service (6.30 pm) this year to give thanks for God’s protection and providence in what in many ways has been a very challenging year. It will be a shorter service with holy communion. It will also serve as an opportunity to pray for God’s providence and blessing on the year ahead. This will be followed by a karaoke evening from around 7.30pm until 1.00am (for the stayers). This will be a chance to let the hair down and have a bit of fun. Put on your dancing shoes and warm up the vocal cords. Bring friends along and if you aren’t prepared to make a fool of yourself be entertained by those who are. At this stage, we are planning to have awards for: the biggest exhibitionist, runner up exhibitionist, best performer, worst performer, best vocalist, worst vocalist & best emerging talent (under 18). We have a program with over 36,000 songs on it. It can be set to exclude overly offensive material to help ensure the event content is family-friendly. BYO drinks and nibbles. Drink responsibly, have a designated driver or else Uber/taxi home.

Season’s Greetings from the Steicke’s: Finally Leanne, Harrison and I hope and pray that you all have a very happy, blessed and safe Christmas and New Year. Thank you so very much for who you are, your presence, service and support in so many ways. Despite the year that was, we have been richly blessed in so many ways. Praise God, pray and persevere. The best is yet to come!

Yours in He who became like us so that we can become like Him,

Pastor Mike.

The Lutheran Church of Australia acknowledges that our loving Creator God first gave the land on which we are placed, to the peoples of the First Nations who have walked and cared for this land since before recorded time. We thank God for the land’s Traditional Custodians and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging as we travel this journey of reconciliation in Australia.
